Brittany in a nutshell
I may be rotating my top picture, but for now it's a reminiscence of my high school days. I loved school dances and getting the chance to get all dressed up and I love this picture. I have a love for high heels, dresses, and skirts, but I also go to the polar opposite and could spend thousands of dollars buying every piece of Nike, Under Armour, etc. workout clothing piece in stock. So if this doesn't tell you anything about myself, it should, and that is that my life is all about a balance of many likes.
I'm from a little town with a big family and wouldn't trade it for the world. I grew up being involved in all kinds of extracurricular activities ranging from volleyball, softball, and track to show choir, theatre, and band. My life has never been dull and it still isn't! My family is my whole world. My mother (and many other extended family members) is an amazing cook and I grew up eating very well. I didn't (and still don't) always eat particularly healthy, but one thing I love about my cooking background is how I was taught to appreciate using fresh home grown and raised ingredients. I can only recall one or two times in my life where i have bought hamburger from a store. As I've grown I've began to incorporate even more variety into my cooking and have loved finding out so much more about different vegetables and spices and specialties.
I entered college not knowing exactly what I wanted to do and opted for an associates degree. I received an Associates of Applied Science with a a major of Physical Therapy Assistant and became a licensed PTA in July 2009. I decided that I wasn't done there and am finishing my bachelors degree in Exercise Science Education in December 2011. I still have more school in my future, but after 4 1/2 years of straight post-high school classes (no summers off) I'm taking a break! I also am not sure what I want to be "when I grow up" so I will be using this time to help me figure it out, at least mostly.
So a little bit more I about how health and fitness have fit in to my life and will continue to shape it. As I said above I've participated in sports since I was young, but when I began college, my first two years of school I did very little exercise and even less concentration on nutrition and cooking. I loved to cook, but it has definitely been my weakest concentration throughout college. Towards the end of my associate degree I was at a clinical with a Physical Therapist who was a marathon runner and influenced me to sign up for my second 5K after almost 2 years of no running. To say I was rusty was an understatement. It didn't take me long to get back in to it though and I loved the motivation that accompanied signing up and paying for a race. I completed a half-marathon next and then with the prodding of my sister-in-law I signed up for a triathlon. Multi-sport training: Yes. Please. I fell in love. I have since then done several more triathlons, both Sprint and Olympic distance and have more in my future. With an increase in training and the information I have learned from my major I have greatly increased my interest and want to educate others on exercise and health and nutrition. There is so much information out there and it's so hard to sort through what is true, what is false, and what is still unknown, and I want to help. I still struggle with maintaining a steady work out schedule and eating healthy (I am somehow always crazy busy along with being in love with ice cream and sweets), but I am working on it. With moving on from college I plan to concentrate more on my fitness and cooking better and using the skills I have learned throughout life and evolving them. I hope you enjoy my website/blog and will follow me on my journey to find myself and educate others through exercise and health and nutrition!
